The Bettergood double-cheese bagels and Mountain Lightning soda are two of my favorite things to get in Walmart’s grocery section.

  • After a year of working at Walmart, it’s become my preferred grocery store.
  • I love house-brand products like Great Value chocolate ice cream and Bettergoods bagels.
  • I also like picking up Walmart’s fried chicken, which makes a quick and easy dinner.

Believe it or not, I wasn’t a big Walmart shopper before joining the company as a cashier in August 2024.

I’d occasionally visit my local store for something special, but I never really shopped there for groceries. However, now that I see the variety of items available during my shifts, it’s become one of my favorite places to shop.

Here are eight of my favorite grocery items to buy at Walmart.

Walmart’s deli offers a wide range of tasty foods from hot dogs to chimichangas, but in my opinion, its fried chicken is a real standout.

Crispy, crunchy, and full of flavor, this chicken is delicious without being overly greasy. It makes for a fantastic dinner any night of the week.

Plus, as opposed to similar fast food and grocery store chicken I’ve tried, it reheats very well.

I like to pick up a bottle of Mountain Lightning, the store’s version of Mountain Dew.

Mountain Lightning — Walmart’s answer to Mountain Dew — is a crisp, tangy, and bold citrus soda. And although it’s cheaper than its inspiration, it doesn’t lack flavor.

It’s delicious on its own, but I also like using it to make cocktails with vodka or rum.

In my opinion, the store’s watermelon is a must-have item.

I think Walmart’s watermelons are the crown jewels of the produce department. They’re incredibly tasty, juicy, and refreshing.

Although the fruit is great when served directly from the store, I like to enjoy it cold and sprinkled with salt.

In my opinion, Red Baron makes the best frozen pizza money can buy. I especially love the pepperoni French bread version.

Crunchy, saucy, and delightfully cheesy, it’s a wonderful dish that can go from frozen to hot in minutes.

Although the package suggests baking the pizza in the oven, I like to air fry two slices for about six minutes.

The Great Value chocolate ice cream makes a fantastic treat.

Walmart offers lots of products under its Great Value brand, but the chocolate ice cream is one of my favorites.

Sweet, creamy, and satisfyingly rich, it’s a perfect sweet treat that stands toe-to-toe with the big-name brands.

Although I think all the bagel varieties sold at Walmart are good, I love the double-cheese version from the store’s Bettergoods brand.

Made with real cheddar and asiago cheeses, these precut bagels are excellent when eaten out of the bag or toasted.

For a truly delicious breakfast experience, I like topping them with Philadelphia chive and onion cream cheese.

The limited-edition churro-flavored Kit Kats are my favorite thing to buy at Walmart right now.

Unlike the classic chocolate version, this one has a sweet, churro-flavored cream. I think it tastes like something you’d find at a county fair.

Walmart’s bakery produces lots of great items, but personally, I love Patti LaBelle’s prepackaged sweet-potato pie.

Its rich and perfectly seasoned taste brings back memories of being a kid and eating my grandma’s homemade sweet-potato pie at Sunday dinner.

It’s great right out of the box, but I think the pie reaches another level when topped with whipped cream.
