Six different types of hand soap have been recalled due to potential bacteria contamination. 

Missouri-based Intercon Chemical Co. first issued a series of voluntary recalls on June 29, collectively impacting more than 2,500 cases of hand soap.

However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently gave the recalls a Class II label. 

According to the FDA, a Class II recall is “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” 

With that said, here’s what you need to know about the Intercon Chemical Co. hand soap recalls.

What products are affected?

There were six hand soaps recalled in total.

The first two hand soaps were recalled due to potential contamination with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas monteilii, Serratia marcescens, and Serratia nematodiphila.

Where and when were the products sold? 

The soaps were sold through 20 consignees, 19 of which were wholesale and one which was retail. They were distributed in the following 15 states:

• Mississippi
• Nebraska
• New York
• North Carolina
• North Dakota
• Pennsylvania
• South Carolina
• Texas
• Washington
• Wisconsin

As of now, we don’t know exactly when the soaps were distributed. The FDA’s enforcement notice says that Intercon notified consignees and the public, though it does not say exactly how. 

What should I do if I have this product? 

Don’t use any of these soaps if you have already bought them. Instead, dispose of them immediately.
